The Studio.

Who is behind the studio?

Amélie Broddes

What is your background?

I started my studies with a BTS Design de Mode et Environnement at the school of Condé Lyon. I continued with a master’s degree in Global Design in Paris. I got my first job as a stylist’s assistant at Sergeant Major which is a brand of ready-to-wear for kids. Over the years I have evolved by becoming a fashion designer and then head of collection of the boys’ department, then of the girls’ department. I left Paris to come back to live in Lyon where I created my Textile Design studio. I’ve always drawn and painted. My grandmother Odette was a painter, I think she gave me that taste for art and color harmonies.

Describe your style.

My style is colorful, fresh and often flowery. My favorite universe is that of the child, but I also like to work for that of fashion man, woman, home and stationery. I know how to adapt to the desires of my customers, I am very attentive to their requests and I do my best to be as close as possible to their expectations.

What are your main inspirations / influences ?

My daughter inspires me every day for the child’s universe, with her little books, her songs, her toys and her little treasures. But the inspiration also comes at the turn of a stroll, in the pages of a magazine, of an image on Pinterest ... the inspiration is everywhere!

What sets off your passion for prints?

I think I really started to develop a passion for prints thanks to my former work as a stylist in child fashion. The print was at the centre of the collection.

Your first print memories.

I have a vivid memory of the frieze of my little girl’s room. It was a naive motif with pastel colors that represented a countryside, with small hills, cottages and small flowers.

Describe your creation process.

Whatever the medium (computer or paper), I always start from a range of colors. Then it varies, I can draw directly on Photoshop with my pro surface, or work by hand and then create the repetition of the pattern on computer. For an order, I often make sketches on paper upstream, it allows me to test things before moving to the realization.

What is your favorite medium to work with and why?

My pro surface. It’s a chance to work with this kind of material when you’re creative. All mediums are within easy reach and one can draw as on paper.

While working, what do you listen?

It is very varied, but I admit that I like Disney music that I know by heart.

What is your job's favorite part ?

Diversity, freedom and the fact of constantly creating.

What type of product / sector do you mainly work for ?

I work for the men’s, women’s and children’s fashion sectors. I also work for the object universe and stationery.

On which fairs do you exhibit?

I participated in Première Vision just before the first lockdown. I am also on the Playtime marketplace.

Your best fairs memories.

The excitement of the first day, the meeting with customers and other exhibiting designers, and the first purchase orders!

What do you want to accomplish in the future?

I would like to be able to work with some brands that I really like.

What advice would you like to give to new designers who are just starting out?

Being self-employed and working alone can sometimes be difficult. Do not hesitate to surround yourself with other creative people! This community is great for that.
