The Studio.
What is your background?
After working for 8 years as a UX designer, I decided to reconnect with my creativity.
And in the beginning of 2020 I started my career switch to become a surface pattern designer.
I learned the skills of the trade with Helene Mingot, a surface pattern design with 20+ years of expertise.
And following many online courses, like the membership of Barbël Dressler which is focused on pattern design history and traditional styles.
I am now in the launching phase of my activity as a Surface Pattern Designer
Describe your style.
I like to explore different avenues but I like organic patterns with a lot of movement and flow
What are your main inspirations / influences ?
I draw my inspiration from nature, plants and their incredible variety.
Travels, whether actual or imaginary, are my second favorite source of inspiration. I like to use patterns to convey an atmosphere or feelings.
Which place inspires you the most?
Botanical gardens are always on my to do list when visiting new places.
I also like hiking to recharge and get more inspiration.
What sets off your passion for prints?
Pattern design is at the crossroad of two passions of mine : drawing and sewing.
Even if I discovered this passion several years after school, I see myself pursuing this passion for many many years.
Your first print memories.
The big floral wallpaper of the 70’s and terrazzo tiles at my grandparents house
Describe your creation process.
I like to work on the graphic exploration phase and the layout simultaneously.
Then all those bits come together when I create the final repeat. Once I’m happy with it I love to play with random color variations, to find new and unexpected colorways.
For custom made patterns I follow the same steps, with a structured process to help the communication with my client.
There are always moodboards, sketches, layout tests and colorways.
What is your favorite medium to work with and why?
I love gouache, watercolour and watercolour inks for the exploration phases because it's freeing
While working, what do you listen?
I mainly listen to podcasts, and my favourite style of music is anything with a hint of soul.
What is your job's favorite part ?
I feel the possibilities are endless, it’s an immense territory to explore.
What type of product / sector do you mainly work for ?
Mainly fashion, but also stationery and home wear, home decor.
