The Studio.

Who is behind the studio?

Me and myself, Claire Iglesias.

What is your background?

After an Interior Design degree from l’Ecole Boulle in Paris, I started my career in interior architecture. I worked for 12 years in the retail sector as a freelancer then as an employee.
Then, 2 years ago I left Paris to live in Brittany. I became freelancer again so that I could be more creative and have the opportunity to work in more diversified fields. I took the opportunity to pivot in surface design because I always had an affinity with the world of patterns and textures, which interior designers use a lot to structure spaces.
Thanks to this strong experience in the interior design world, I now offer my services as a freelance surface / textile designer.

Describe your style.

My style is directly inspired by my architectural background. It’s rather abstract and geometric. I also like floral patterns, in a refined and simplified way.

What are your main inspirations / influences?

My inspirations are mainly architectural: the Bauhaus, Modernism and Brutalism movements. I am also deeply inspired by painters like Henri Matisse and Pierre Soulage and by Fauvism for color palettes.

Which place inspires you the most?

The big Asian cities (Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok) with their breathtaking perspectives and details on every street corner.

Your first print memories.

My grandmother's very 70's wallpaper.

Describe your creation process.

I work a lot from cuted paper. Then I scan it and play with it. I also draw on the iPad with photos for inspiration. Then I refine everything on Illustrator to create the patterns.

What is your favorite medium to work with and why?

Paper cutouts and collages. I really enjoy this peacefull process for its relaxing effect.

While working, what do you listen?

Right now, some 90s US Hip Hop.

What is your job's favorite part ?

The beginning of the process, searching shapes and textures and draw.

What do you want to accomplish in the future?

I would love to attend a trade show.
