Who is behind the studio?

What is your background?

I studied Textile Design at ENSAV La Cambre in Brussels. During and after my diploma I made pattern designs for a french textile studio and a belgian lingerie fabrics manufacturer.

After my studies I co-founded a brand of knit accessories : Les Inséparables, made in Belgium, that featured jacquard patterns and natural materials.

I came back to live in France in 2014 and live and work near Montauban.

Here, I designed the print patterns collections of a kids fashion brand, it made me want to return to the work of prints and patterns.

Describe your style.

I more often work for commissions. I find it hard to define and describe my own style, but I would say graphic, colorful.

What are your main inspirations / influences ?

My main inspirations are Art, traditional textiles and their techniques, nature, graphic design, Design, photography, illustration and everything that surrounds me on a daily basis of course.

Which place inspires you the most?

Japan, the Mediterranean countries

What sets off your passion for prints?

Drawing, meeting my drawing teacher in Toulouse, Catherine Escudié and her classes that I followed from the age of 10. Later, during my studies at La Cambre, when I realized that you could combine drawing and textile design, and practice the profession dedicated to textile printing.

Your first print memories.

When i was as child, the patterns of wallpapers and tiles at my grandparents' house in its own elements since the 70s . And the prints of the dresses of the 60s of my grandmother who kept everything.

Describe your creation process.

I draw by hand, experiment with different mediums or also recently work directly with iPad.

Then I retouch, clean and rework my drawings to make a pattern, a composition.

What is your favorite medium to work with and why?

My basics : technical pen, Indian ink and grease pencil.

While working, what do you listen?

What I listen to depends on what I do. I listen to podcasts more and more because this format is great, when I do repetitive or technical work, such as cleaning, reworking my drawings. Otherwise music depending on the mood of the moment, it goes from Fleetwood Mac to Dc Dre or La Femme… or FIP radio.

What is your job's favorite part ?

The moment when I feel that the pattern is successful and that it takes shape after sometimes a long journey. The happiness to see its pattern edited, printed on fabric.

What type of product / sector do you mainly work for ?

I used to work for kids' fashion and knit fashion design. But I also really enjoy creating for illustration and stationery.

On which fairs do you exhibit?

I will participate in my first show with La Trame and Print Days in September 2021.

What do you want to accomplish in the future?

Present my first collection of patterns and continue collaborations with brands or textile manufacturers.

The biggest challenge you had to handle as a designer?

Create and manage an entire collection of prints for a children's fashion brand. From a colored range to production follow-up.

What advice would you like to give to new designers who are just starting out?

Build a good professional network, maintain it from school for those studying in this sector. Work with a unifying dynamic as here within La Trame between designers. Curiosity ever and ever, and perseverance.
