The Studio.
Who is behind the studio?
I am Lucile Mignet
What is your background?
It was my passion for art and design that dictated the path of my studies and led me to take an interest in fashion and then to specialise in textile design. After finishing my studies with a master's degree as a product manager in textiles, fashion and leather, I decided to express my creativity through my own textile studio.
Describe your style.
I like the abstract, which gives the illusion of volume and movement. My approach is always to encourage contemplation, to take the time to notice the motif and how it lives with its environment.
What are your main inspirations / influences ?
They walk between Pierre Soulages' black flat tints, Mark Rothko's colourful compositions and modern design objects such as Alexander Girard's Wooden Dolls series.
Which place inspires you the most?
I love to be inspired by the interiors of others. As much as I love my own comfort and the way I have adapted my " Chez moi ", I am always amazed to see other people's " Chez moi ". It gives me lots of ideas, lots of inspiration, unlikely mixes, unexpected colours and I think it contributes to the mix of my work.
Your first print memories.
The engraving and serigraphy workshops of the fine arts school where I studied and their relaxed and pleasant atmosphere!
Describe your creation process.
I always get as far away from my subject/theme as possible by different means of classical divergence. I then start to draw inspiration from shapes, colours, textures that speak to me. Whether it is digital resources on specialized pages or by discussing with colleagues or physical resources such as architecture, museums or everyday objects, I list everything that inspires me my subject.
Then I mix all these ideas on paper and start to draw some sketches. Over time, I reduce my sketches to 3 concrete proposals that I submit to my client in the form of mock-ups and technical sheets.
I like to apply a methodical approach so that the result is as original and personal as possible.
What is your favorite medium to work with and why?
I like to work on very thick non-white paper with pencil and acrylic markers. It is the combination of the precision of the line with the suppleness and roundness of the medium that forms the basis of my work.
To this can be added a few coloured pencils and alcohol markers, a little acrylic with a brush and a digital treatment as well.
While working, what do you listen?
I let myself be guided by my mood, my instinct of the moment and allow my playlist to vary from one extreme to another. I mainly feed my ears with classical music, 70's punk and podcasts.
What is your job's favorite part ?
I think I love the inspiration part as much as the final print part of the design. These stages are the extremes between everything and nothing (well, first "nothing" and then "everything").
What do you want to accomplish in the future?
I want to grow my project, my creative practice and open my universe to other mediums, other supports.
