The Studio.

Who is behind the studio?

Lucie Philippe.

What is your background?

I am a graphic designer graduated in 2009 with a Bac +5 in Applied Arts, in Art Direction, Graphic Design and Color Strategy (IUP Color, Image, Design).

I have 13 years of expertise in the field of product and textile design.

Trained for 10 years in the major textile industry brands, from the sportswear sector (surfwear, snowwear, beachwear, fitness, yogawear) to accessible ready-to-wear French brands, with clients such as Decathlon, Oxbow, Tribord, Domyos, Carrefour Design, Auchan InExtenso, Princesse Nomade, etc. I have participated in the creation of products and garments according to the BBIP* concept. A beautiful design, yes, but accessible to the greatest number. More and more sensitive to ecology, the studio's activity then naturally turned towards brands with strong eco-responsible values.

I also accompany companies/brands in their global artistic direction, in the development of original and customized brand identities, while respecting the codes of their sector.

Founder of a creative studio in 2010, LPrintStudio, an eco-creative office dedicated to graphic design, textile and brand image development. The trademark? The pattern as a red thread of the visual identity of the brand!

Describe your style.

My drawings are often inspired by nature. I like that patterns allow to travel. I am inspired by my peregrinations and the blue is often present in my colored ranges.

What are your main inspirations / influences ?

Travelling (from Asia to the dead end of my street) on foot, by van, by train, by bus, by boat or one day spaced rocket !), Nature all around (from the smallest pebble picked up to the great wild landscapes) and encounters.

Which place inspires you the most?

All the places to visit, being on the move.

What sets off your passion for prints?

My dad's vinyl records and wax / batik tissues brought back that my parents brought back from their travels.

Your first print memories.

The wallpaper of the house of my grandparents and the mosaics of the number of the house, brought back from the south of Spain where my family is native.

Describe your creation process.

I start by drawing by hand (mainly with a line pen like tatoo drawing), then I work on the computer to enrich the motif, give it consistency (colors, shapes, scales). On my vector design software I finalise the pattern repetition, the color separation and the colorization.

Oh yes, I forgot! Dancing like crazy, jumping around for 10min listening to Kap Bambino, Lizzo like Cassius (Toop Toop), doing yoga and creative walking are also part of my creative process ^^

While working, what do you listen?

My favourite radios, Fip, France Inter, podcasts, and ambient mixes of my favorite artists on SoundCloud

What is your job's favorite part ?

I love the creation phase, from the construction of the pattern to the research of color schemes. I often work with a smile on my face when I'm in the design phase (laughs). Seeing my designs on the products make me happy. I love the idea that my patterns come to life on a volume and have a life of their own.

What type of product / sector do you mainly work for ?

I come from sportswear, from surfwear to casualwear.
I also work for women's ready-to-wear and eco-friendly fabric brands.
The children's world is my second target, from clothing to printed objects.

What do you want to accomplish in the future?

Lots of projects! I would like to continue to develop consulting and support part of the development of GOTS certified textiles. I would like to work more on home decoration. And I would like to partner with someone to develop 4-handed textile projects.

The biggest challenge you had to handle as a designer?

My first all over pattern as a trainee, for women snow wear for Oxbow (french surfwear brand)! I started with an abstract painting mixing painting, drawing and topographic maps (that I created especially for the collection) and I had a hard time putting it together ^^
