The Studio.

Who is behind the studio?

Jessica Levy Antoni

What is your background?

I studied at Studio Bercot, a wonderful studio to discover the world of fashion and textile, experimenting with all the techniques of creation! I discovered 2 passions: knitwear and print design. I had the chance to start in a french brand, RTW, that became important today. I learned everything alongside the DA and founder, for 7 years, mainly on Knit and prints. Then I felt the need to draw even more, to change universes.
As a freelance I continued to collaborate with beautiful brands of European, RTW, always on knitwear and print.

MatchyMatchydesign was born in Paris in 2011 and followed me on my trips to Madrid, then to London, where we are now based since 2017. MatchyMatchydesign is a collective of designers from all over the world, who share the same passion for textile design.

Recently, MatchyMatchydesign has become my priority to continue developing what I like the most: color, vibration of lines and shapes, texture: textile design.

Describe your style.

There are several styles within the studio, as each designer brings his touch. But the main word is modernity, originality and the strength of our colours. And the whole forms our unity with the print designs that "match".

What are your main inspirations / influences ?

There are three axes:
- the primary arts.
- colour and combinations of harmonies.
- art deco motifs.

Which place inspires you the most?

London, Lisbon and Tokyo are my favorite cities... vibrant for their creativity.
But whatever the place, the most important thing is to have an open eye, at any time to capture details, colors and sensations.

What sets off your passion for prints?

I grew up next following my architect dad, always a pencil in hand, markers, paint, and admiration for furnishing fabrics and wallpaper.

Your first print memories.

Probably the wallpaper of my room at my grandparents countryside house.
Yet old, worn by time, I loved playing to find its repetition!

Describe your creation process.

For our MatchyMatchydesign collections we work in 2 ways, each season:
- depending on the fashion shows, for customers who want to be as close as possible to trends,
- with much more creative inspirations, moving away from fashion and textiles.

In any case, we always hand draw
Some designers paint or use other mediums to colour, and other directly on the computer. Finally the repetition is always is always through Photoshop or Illustrator!

For commission prints, we follow the briefs and moodboards of the client, we make different proposals so that the customer can choose and find the right pattern for his collection. We always present our designs, all-over or placed, on a model of RTW or decoration, to validate the scale and send a precise file to the supplier.

What is your favorite medium to work with and why?

I work with Posca, wax , ink, watercolour pencil or markers.
Each of my designers has his preferences: paintings, ink, technical pens!
It all depends on the pattern to make, the visual effect that we want to give!

While working, what do you listen?

I love Nova Club podcasts. It was my favourite radio back in time, when I lived in Paris. The programs are amazing to discover new sounds. I also listen to a lot of cultural, historical and scientific programs. I like to learn and draw at the same time!

What is your job's favorite part?

I love to do research, both iconographic and prospecting, I could do that for hours and hours. Find the beautiful image that makes you dream, or a pretty brand that inspires, have eyes open at every moment.
This obviously triggers the desire to draw!

What type of product / sector do you mainly work for?

I mainly work on the RTW European brands, with some Home clients too.

On which fairs do you exhibit?

I participate to the following fairs: Première Vision in Paris, Print Days in virtual, Evolution in Amsterdam, Printsource NY in virtual, The London Textile Fair and the London Print Design fair.

Your best fairs memories.

My best memory at a fair is my first sale during my first participation at Première Vision.

What do you want to accomplish in the future?

I would like to work with more sustainable brands, and ideally help the brands to work consciously.
