Who is behind the studio?

Behind this little silly name lies Sandrine Aujogues, a French Australian surface pattern designer.

What is your background?

After studying Fashion Design in France, I worked 5 years as a kid fashion designer in Paris.

I moved to beautiful Australia where I worked as a textile designer for 10 years within a textile design studio in Sydney.

To travel and live in an other country was one of the most rewarding experience personally as well as professionally.

Back in France, I created my studio in 2017 where I work now as a freelance surface pattern designer.

Describe your style.

My style is graphic, playful and poetic.

I love telling a story ...

What are your main inspirations / influences ?

My main inspirations are colours, architecture, cities, nature... a curiosity for everything around me.

And some artists as Matisse, H.Rousseau, S. Delauney, Maija Isola, Gunta Stölzl...the list is long :)

Which place inspires you the most?

Very hard to choose only one...I love travelling ...every place is a huge source of inspiration

What sets off your passion for prints?

My love for colours and shapes.

Your first print memories.

Dots..small, big...already there in my drawings as a child.

Describe your creation process.

It always starts by an exciting mix of ideas and colours.

Then there is the development of colour ranges, themes, trends and ideas sketches.

Followed by the drawing stage that will be (re)worked digitally.

Composition, repeat and colours will be finalised on Illustrator or Photoshop

What is your job's favorite part ?

My favourite part of the job is to be surrounded by colours and designs on a daily basis.

It’s also very thrilling when your print come alive :)

What type of product / sector do you mainly work for ?

At the moment, I work mainly for fashion (baby/kids/women), stationery and home decor.

I help my clients on their projects by providing a collection of exclusive designs to choose from and also by doing commissions.

What advice would you like to give to new designers who are just starting out?

Believe in yourself and persevere..so keep going ;)
