The Studio.
Who is behind the studio?
ATOCH Sophie.
What is your background?
After a first part of my career in the field of communication, I reconverted as a web designer and pattern designer. I discovered the creation of patterns via Adobe Illustrator tutorials and the work of designers on Instagram. It's a perfect job for me in the sense that it combines creation, design and technicality.
Describe your style.
My universe is both graphic and figurative. I like to be inspired by floral, ethnic, folk themes ... To create, I mix different techniques such as watercolor, pencils, collage. And, I work either in traditional “by hand” mode, or with digital tools.
What are your main inspirations / influences ?
Ethnic and folk influences (Africa, South America, India ...), artistic movements (Nabis, Impressionists, Art Nouveau ...)
Describe your creation process.
I first like to associate 2 words, 2 ideas that will inspire me (Psychedelik and Folk, Vintage and Peonies ...) then I collect images that illustrate what I am looking for on a moodboard. From there I do hand sketches of either separate elements or pattern compositions. Then, I develop the collection on Illustrator either from scans or by redrawing with the graphics tablet.
What is your favorite medium to work with and why?
I like to paint with watercolors and mix drawing techniques: Indian ink, pencils, markers...
What is your job's favorite part ?
Research (moodboard) and hand drawing.
What type of product / sector do you mainly work for ?
For textiles (ready-to-wear, fabric, accessory), home (object, decoration), stationery (notebook, scrapbooking paper) or packaging.
On which fairs do you exhibit?
Print Days.
