Présentation du Studio.
Who is behind the studio?
Laurence Véron, self-taught photographer/textile designer
What is your background?
After my studies in Paris (Bachelor of English and Master of French as a Foreign Language), I lived two years in Scotland and then in Canada (English, not in Quebec) from 1990 to 2015. It was in Canada that I acquired the North American spirit of entrepreneurship: the desire for risk and the motivation to pursue my ambitions. It allowed me to leave a position at the university to forge a career as a writer-writer-editor of documentaries. I had been living in Winnipeg for a few years when I was given the extraordinary opportunity to write and direct a documentary film on French-language literature in the province of Manitoba. I had the love at first sight for the direction, me who loves words and images! This first film received the 2001 Blizzard Awards for Best Direction and Cinematography, and was followed by numerous documentaries and short films, screened at several film festivals across Canada. In 2015, I returned to France to get closer to my family. Being perfectly bilingual, I taught English in a few private schools. During a walk in the woods, I was strangely attracted by a pile of wooden trunks, yet very ordinary. I still took several pictures. By editing a photo taken that day, playing with the lines and colors, I created an abstract, beautiful, even mesmerizing image. Then one pattern came out, then another. I made the decision to leave teaching and create Atelier Laurence V. in order to put all my talent, my energy and my experience as an independent designer at the service of a professional project that suits me perfectly.
Describe your style.
My patterns come from the sublimation of the details found in Nature. I make nothing up, everything is already there, I only reveal an evidence. Nature is an inexhaustible source of forms, lines... a brilliant creator of magnificent abstract figures, very contemporary. My style is abstract, graphic, contemporary. Even my floral patterns are highly stylized.
